Applying for Meals on Wheels
Home-delivered Meals on Wheels are provided by churches, hospitals and health care centers across Oklahoma County.
If you or a loved one are 60 years of age or older, unable to leave your home without significant assistance, and have no one who can prepare meals, you may apply to receive home-delivered meals through Meals on Wheels of Oklahoma City.
Age: Meals on Wheels participants must be 60 years of age or older.
Homebound: Participants must require significant assistance to leave their home. For example, an individual with impaired mobility who needs someone to help them exit the home and negotiate any steps would be eligible. Conversely, an individual using a walker or a wheelchair with access to a ramp who can leave the home and transfer into the vehicle of a friend or relative would not be eligible for meals. A participant would also not be eligible if they or another member of the household is able to drive.
If you are 60 or older, but are not homebound, you may contact the Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Program at (405) 949-2709. They provide nutritious meals to seniors Monday through Friday at several convenient sites around Oklahoma County. If you need help arranging transportation to a congregate meal site, they can help with that as well.
Income: A person's income or resources is not considered when determining eligibility. Those with incomes below the 2019 poverty guidelines ($1,041 per month for an individual; $1,410 per month for a couple) are given priority over applicants whose income exceed the guidelines.
One an applicant is determined to be eligible to receive home-delivered meals, we contact providers who prepare and deliver meals to the applicant's neighborhood. Our providers do not receive federal or state assistance and may be limited in the number of meals they can prepare each week. Because of this, applicants may be placed on a waiting list.
If Meals on Wheels is unable to provide services, the applicant's information will be referred to the Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Program who provides federal- and state-funded congregate and home-delivered meals.
There is a suggested donation of $1.50 per meal, however no one will be denied service due to their inability to pay. All donations are used to help improve services to homebound seniors.
